Our camps are designed to mirror the personal experience of our educational philosophy by providing individual connections with each camper, and our overall summer programming provides a multitude of social, academic, athletic, and artistic opportunities that align with your child’s interests.
  • Are Steward camps only for Steward students?

The Steward Summer Experience is open to all eligible campers, not just enrolled Steward students. Historically, half of the participants are not Steward students. Steward camps have welcomed a wide range of students from throughout the metro Richmond area and surrounding counties.
  • Can I register for camp online?

All Summer Experience registration takes place online. Click here to register.
  • I have more than one child who wants to attend a Summer Experience camp. Do I have to submit more than one registration form?

You will need to complete a profile for each child in the same household. If they were a Summer Experience camper in previous summers, your information should be available in your CampBrain account. You are encouraged to review the camper and medical information to ensure that they are up to date. Please email camps@stewardschool.org if you are having trouble accessing your account.
  • What are the general camp hours?

    • General drop-off 8:40-8:55 a.m.
    • Morning camp pickup: 12-12:30 p.m.
    • Afternoon camp pickup: 4-4:30 p.m.
      • For those who need additional coverage, early drop-off is available as early as 7:45 a.m., and aftercare is available until 6 p.m. Please select "early drop-off" and/or “aftercare” during the registration process.
  • Can I change my assigned drop-off carpool loop?

    • We would prefer everyone stick to their assigned loop, as it helped tremendously this past year for preventing a check-in backup and allowing the line to move quickly and attendance to be efficient.
    • If you’re carpooling with another camp family who is assigned to a different carpool loop, you may choose either loop for drop off.
    • If you need to drop off earlier than your assigned loop, we have an Early drop off supplement option that allows drop off as early as 7:20 a.m.
  • My child is in both a morning and an afternoon camp. Can they stay on site in between?

Yes! Any camper registered for a full-day or AM+PM camp is welcome to spend midday with us and have lunch with us. Summer staff will escort camp groups to lunch and then to a short recess before escorting your camper(s) to their afternoon session. Campers may bring a packed lunch or enroll in the optional weekly lunch supplement.
  • What happens if the camp I want is full?

    • Many families find it helpful to register for a second choice if the primary choice is full. You will have the option to choose which camp your camper attends should space become available.
    • Camps that are full will display “Add to Waitlist” once you enter the registration portal. You will not be charged or required to submit a deposit for the waitlist.
    • Should space become available, summer staff will contact you via email, and you will have the option to join the camp or remove your camper from the waitlist. If we don’t hear from you in a reasonable time, the spot may be forfeited to the next family on the waitlist.
    • Campers can come off the waitlist up until a few days before that camp begins. By nature, movement of waitlists can be hard to predict, and we may not be able to confidently say whether your camper will or will not make it into a camp.
  • What should my camper bring to camp?

    • Please send your child in comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes that are suitable for play and potentially getting dirty. Pack a filled water bottle and a lunch if staying for both AM+PM camps. We also have a weekly lunch supplement available, provided by our dining services.
    • Make sure everything your camper brings to camp is labeled with their first and last name. This will help our staff return lost and found items to their owners.
    • Please leave electronics (including phones and smartwatches), stuffed animals, trading cards, and extra toys/items at home as they can distract from the camp experience and get lost or damaged while at camp.
  • What if I need to pick up my camper early?

    • Please fill out our Schedule Change Request Form as soon as possible.
    • Day-of Pick-Up: You must send a written email to camps@stewardschool.org before 10:00 a.m. on the day of pick-up. Early pick-ups must occur before 3:20 p.m. Requests after 3:20 p.m. may not be honored promptly due to final camp day logistics.
  • Who are the Summer Experience staff?

    • All Summer Experience camps are supervised by qualified adult camp leaders. Safety and a positive experience are the most important aspects of our summer program, and we believe that this is best accomplished with knowledgeable adults who are passionate about your child’s experience. Our camps also staff a trained medical professional. Most camp instructors and coaches are trained in CPR/AED, first aid, and Epi-Pen administration.
    • Teen counselor apprentices will be used to help with experience, play, and group movements but your camper will always be supervised by a qualified roster of adult counselors and program leaders.
  • What is the Spartan Counselor Apprentice?

The SCA program is available to rising 7th grade and above to volunteer with our camps. They are essential members of the Summer team who engage with kids and camps in a very unique way. Currently, the SCA program is only available for Steward students.
  • Can I pay for summer camps with a credit card or by using a student account?

All summer camp registrations before June 1, 2025, require a non-refundable $50 deposit per camp with a credit card. After June 1, 2025, all camp fees will no longer be refundable. Should a conflict occur, registrations may be transferred to an alternate week if space is available. Balances may be paid by credit card or check. Unfortunately, we are not able to process camp registrations through the Steward student account program.

There are minimum class sizes for all camps and programs. The Steward School reserves the right to cancel any course, program, or activity as necessary. In such cases, a full refund will be made. Balances may be paid by credit card. In the event of extreme weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to cancel or postpone any part of camp for the safety of the campers. We cannot provide a refund for any cancellation or postponement due to extreme circumstances/forces of nature.
