Standout Spartan: Sydnee Stewart '29

The Steward School
Talented actor is at home on the stage
Sydnee Stewart ’29 has been acting in mainstage productions for four years, and each time she walks onstage, “I feel alive. It is where I am most comfortable,” she said. “The spotlight and the sound of the intro music make any nervousness that I have disappear.”

Her most recent role was the title character in the CharacterWorks production of “Moana,” which was performed at the Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen.

“I was honored to play the very determined, sea-loving, and fearless Moana,” said Sydnee. “Her selflessness, leadership, realistic physicality, and constant quest to help others make her a valuable role model. The bonus is that the music and songs are incredible and so much fun to perform.”

Sydnee is currently in rehearsal in the role of Dr. Einstein for the Steward play, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” which will be performed November 7-9 in the Lora M. Robins Theatre. The play, directed by Lower School Theatre and Upper School Acting Teacher Craig Smith, tells the tale of a newspaper drama critic known for his diatribes against marriage who suddenly falls in love and gets married.

“There is nothing as rewarding as hearing an audience react to what they are seeing on the stage,” said Sydnee. “The applause and cheers confirm that all of the hard work and dedication that I put into each show is worth the time and energy.”

Congratulations, Sydnee, and best wishes for continued success in your theatrical pursuits!
