Standout Spartans: Hispanic Honor Society

The Steward School
Students compete in National Spanish Exam
Congratulations to the members of Steward’s chapter of the Hispanic Honor Society who participated in the National Spanish Exam, a competition that recognizes student achievement and proficiency in the study of Spanish. More than 85,000 students nationwide competed for medal placement (gold, silver, bronze, and honorable mention) and scholarships. Cameron Berryman ’24 and Natalia Jimenez ’26 won silver placement; Dante Castle ’26 and Beth Cram ’24 won bronze; and four students won honorable mentions: Mia Burruss ’26, Nathan Gu ’25, Shreya Natarajan ’25, and Kate Reed ’24.

World Languages Teacher Marina Escámez Ballesta, who serves as the faculty sponsor for the Society, said, “I am excited to have a group of students who decided to take time out of their busy schedules to compete in the National Spanish Exam. Students who place bronze are above the national 75th percentile and silver are above the 85th percentile. Honorable mentions are above the 65th percentile. This is a HUGE accomplishment given the number of students who competed. Kate, who had a medal placement in 2023, is our candidate for the senior scholarship. We will know the results this summer!”
