An Impressive Distinction

Fourteen hardworking alumni and students were recently awarded for their Spanish-language skills. They each received the Global Seal of Biliteracy certification, which recognizes proficiency in two or more languages. Awardees must pass a rigorous AP exam during their junior or senior years to be awarded a Global Seal of Biliteracy.

Steward’s mission is to prepare students for college and for life, and the Global Seal of Biliteracy is a noteworthy accomplishment that can help Spartans in their future endeavors. 

“This certificate can be used as a credential when applying to colleges and for scholarships,” said World Languages Teacher Marina Escámez Ballesta. “In addition, the certificate can sometimes be used for college credit, and it is sure to make a résumé stand out.” 

Congratulations to the following alumni and students who passed the spring 2024 AP Spanish and Culture exam and received the Global Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish:

Feryaal Abbasi ’24, Cameron Berryman ’24, Lilly Caldwell ’24, Caitlin Calkins ’24, Brynn Cason ’25, Shehryar Chaudhry ’25, Beth Cram ’24, Katherine Elles ’24, Olivia Fahrenkrog ’24, Pedro Lujan ’25, Laura Luzzatto ’24, Charlotte Olexy ’24,  Donovan Richardson ’25, and Rafi Zepeda '26.

“I am incredibly proud of these alumni and students,” said Ms. Escámez Ballesta, who also serves as the faculty advisor for Steward’s chapter of the Hispanic Honor Society. “Now they have one more way to showcase their Spanish skills!”
