Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship Recipients Announced

The Steward School
Top athletes, outstanding community members
Congratulations to the recipients of the 2024-25 Ray Tate Student-Athlete Scholarship, Brian Archer ’25 and Sadie Goldberg ’25. The scholarship is named in memory of Ray Tate, the founding president of the Spartan Club, who devoted much of his time and energy to Steward athletics

At an Upper School Assembly on October 28, Brian and Sadie were celebrated for their excellent character, strong work ethic, and extracurricular involvement — characteristics that all Spartans are encouraged to develop and nurture. As the audience cheered and applauded (including Brian and Sadie’s proud families), the two student-athletes were presented $1,000 scholarships by Chuck Wingfield, president of the Spartan Club.

Brian Archer
A dedicated member of the Spartan baseball team, Brian has been a starter for the team for two years. He was also a member of Steward’s 2023 VISAA DII State Championship baseball team. Beyond Steward, he played for the #35-ranked travel baseball team in the country. In addition, Brian has committed to play D1 baseball at George Washington University next year.

In addition to his involvement in athletics, Brian is the club leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is a member of the Finance Club, and served as a counselor for Steward’s Summer Experience baseball camp. He recently completed his three-year tenure in the Leadership Program and proudly presented his capstone, “Youth Participation in Sports,” to an audience of peers, faculty, and family.

Sadie Goldberg
Sadie is a standout varsity field hockey and lacrosse player at Steward. She has led the field hockey team in scoring and assists for the past three seasons and was named Second Team All TCIS in 2023. Both the field hockey and girls lacrosse teams were honored as the TCIS Betty Jean Riddick Sportsmanship Award winners in 2023.

A member of Steward’s Spirit Squad, National Honor Society, and Entrepreneurship Program, Sadie also serves as an Admissions Ambassador. She shares her time and energy by volunteering for a variety of non-profits, including Feed More and Hoodies4Homeless.

Congratulations, Brian and Sadie!
