    Earth Week
    April 22-25, 2024
    Beginning at dismissal

Join us for informative and hands-on Earth Week festivities. The Bryan Innovation Lab will host a series of programs following dismissal. The goal is for all of us to feel more connected to our natural environment and understand how we can make small changes to care for this place we call home.

MONDAY: BRYAN INNOVATION LAB SERVICE DAY
The Bryan Innovation Lab is a model of how the built and natural environments can coexist. In this year of service, help participate in maintaining spaces and learn about our best practices. We’ll have a range of simple-to-strenuous activities, with a focus on removing invasives around our retention pond. This is a student-led project by Riley Carter ’26. Families can also participate by creating pieces for a ceramic mural created by this year’s artist-in-residence, Merenda Cecelia.

    TUESDAY: ZERO WASTE
How can we make small changes to be more responsible in the production and consumption of materials? We will explore how we can reduce our waste by creating DIY cleaning products with safe (and delicious-smelling!) ingredients. Participants will meet with staff from Eco Inspire, a local zero-waste refill shop that will highlight their products and services.

    WEDNESDAY: COMPOST THE MOST
The Steward School has been making a big push to reduce our waste through composting. We invite you to meet our composting service, Natural Organic Process Enterprises (NOPE), to learn about the process of industrial composting. We will also highlight student research on the different types of composting that your family can do. Families can also build and take home their own worm composting kits, and we’ll give away compost tea to use in the garden! Please register if you plan to attend and make a kit.

    THURSDAY: NATURE PLAY SCHOOL EXPO
While you’re at the Spring Social, pop on down and check out the Bryan Lab’s Nature Play School, which takes place every Thursday during the school year. For Earth Week, we have invited local organizations to share hands-on activities that highlight the work they do to help kids of all ages feel connected to and comfortable in nature.

    These groups include:
    • Trail Kids
    • Nature Connection
    • Youth Outdoor Workshops
    • TimberNook
    • City Bees
    • Bellemeade Park
    • Adventure Walkers

    DAILY ACTIVITIES:
    • Help Kaylyn Whiteside ’25 create an Earth Week mural with paint made from discarded markers.
    • Come grab a Bryan Lab animal sticker made by Henley Voeks ’24.
    • Nathan Bridges ’26 will be constructing bluebird houses to install around campus. Sketch a design that Nathan will laser engrave onto the houses!
