On Thursday, January 14, five members of the Steward community joined the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame at the second annual induction ceremony and reception. Alumni, former and current faculty and staff members, and other community members attended the celebration.

Upon arrival, attendees looked at framed photos and flipped through yearbooks from the inductees’ time at Steward. Director of Athletics Bruce Secrest opened the ceremony and Head of School Dan Frank closed. Each inductee was introduced by a family member or former colleague. The ceremony was followed by a lively reception in the Cramer Center.

Here are snippets from the introductory speech for each inductee:


“Admiration—that is what I have always had for Susan Cramer Twining … She was the youngest member of a family that transformed this institution. I always marveled at how she was able to enjoy a normal existence … while her Dad was the headmaster and her mother did absolutely everything else here … While she embraced her family’s involvement, Susan always traveled her own path … Susan Cramer always knew what it was like to really work hard for something. Thank God for her and her teammates who worked so hard to strive towards a goal of athletic success that truly launched our program.”


“Ian Coddington — in my mind, a true renaissance man — is being inducted into The Steward School Athletic Hall of Fame. Quite an honor! But his impact on this school goes well beyond the athletic realm … It is kind of difficult to give you a true glimpse of Ian because he is so multi-faceted … Hired to teach P.E. and coach soccer, Cod teamed up with Neil Turnage, and this dynamic duo guided the boys’ soccer program into its glory years … Once he became the US Dean of Students, all of us witnessed his ethics in action. I worked closely with him for 26 years, and this is a man of integrity and honor… He clearly helped students see the difference between right and wrong … Coddington is just steady, steady, steady—a man who was always willing to do what was necessary to help The Steward School.”
